Thanks Russ. I really enjoyed your course last week. It was extremely helpful. Now comes the studying!  (ASP/CSP 4-Day workshop)

Finally received my results - barely passed. Seems odd that the two sections I did poorly in are sections I felt I did much better in - maybe I read the questions wrong or in reality am not as strong in those areas as I otherwise thought.

Would have liked a better overall result, but at least I did enough to pass. Now I understand why the fail rate on the CSP is what it is - this exam was not easy and takes a lot of preparation time. Anyway, thanks again for putting on such a great course.

Without question, as I received notification when I walked out of the door of the testing center about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon that I had passed the ASP exam, I am giving full credit to my success to the online ASP/CSP review course I just took with you over the past few months.

I'm not going away. Right after the holidays, I will be back online and on your terrific iPhone/iPad Quiz App reviewing questions. I will be signing up for the CSP exam as soon as permitted to do so.

Pigs CAN fly and I am grateful beyond words.

Holiday greeting to you, your family and your staff.

GREAT COURSE...comprehensive, interactive with flexibility. Excellent opportunity for the broad range of participants.

Thanks again!!

11/14/2011

Thank you for the documentation. I enjoyed the class very much. I especially appreciated the flexibility of going through the recorded sessions when I was not able to attend live sessions. I found myself on business travel in different parts of the world and it was not always feasible to attend live sessions.

Thanks again.

You don't know how much I enjoyed this program. I'm going to be very sad come Tues night at 8pm and Russ isn't on my home computer!! I convinced myself that I could find time to study during the work day but NO WAY.

Thanks again for everything. I am SOOO pleased to learn you will not boot me off your site for a full YEAR!!! I REALLY enjoy the study questions and resources.

Many thanks again.

Russell,

I am taking the online CSP exam prep, and just wanted to drop a line saying how much I appreciated the video sessions. My intent was to participate in the live online classes, unfortunately unexpected work related issues set me back. Since then I have been playing catch up / viewing the recorded classes plus additional reading. Got to say the recordings really give a live feel and helps to tie the Brauer reading material together. (On several occasions I've forgotten that I was viewing recorded material and tried to respond.)

Thanks Again!

11/08/2011

HI Russ,

Just wanted to say thanks!! I took the Spring ASP review course and passed my exam yesterday. I know is was a bit past the recommended time but I just reviewed the lectures and tests and passed. Thanks again.

11/07/2011

Russ,

I just wanted to let you know that I passed my ASP exam. Thanks for the class and all the help. I did want to give you a breakdown of what I can remember of the test, of course, getting beyond the anxiety of hitting the "end exam now" button.

There were questions for engineering economics, where specifically this class helped me out. There were series/parallel electronic questions, again without this class, I would have been SOL. One thing I wished I would have been more prepared for were the health effects and specific toxicology events. One thing that surprised me were the number of questions where one answer is correct, but there was a better answer. So test takers need to thoroughly read all answers. I caught myself after I reviewed all the questions the second time, which also helps.

As soon as I receive the official results, I will be sitting for the CSP right away. I can't let all this good knowledge from your class disappear with the happenings of the holidays. Once again, thank you very much. If there is anything you need me to do for your future students, I would love to, just let me know.

11/03/2011

I really enjoyed the class and may take the CIH prep next fall or later - assuming I pass my CSP of course! Let me know if you will be doing any CIH prep courses in the Seattle area (2012-2013). It would be nice to actually SEE Russ - he's a crack up!

Thanks again for everything.

10/24/2011

Guess what!

I passed the CSP exam! I am now one of the few and the proud!!! Whew!!!!

Your class was definitely part of my success. I used the materials constantly as I studied.

Thanks for all your help.

10/4/2011

Russ, Just wanted to let you know I PASSED my CSP exam on Friday afternoon. Those comments mentioned in your earlier e-mail about the CSP exam are right on target. The one big thing I struggled with was managing my time. I got to question #200 with only 2 minutes to spare for review. You had to really carefully read the scenarios they presented, then look carefully at each wordy answer for the completely correct statement. I think the Data Chem questions helped me learn how to do that (I got through 1800 of their 2194 questions while studying).

I think the course made all the difference in passing, but you definitely needed some skill in interpreting the questions and street smart judgment about what the "best" answer should be. There were many that I wasn't sure I answered right...Apparently there were enough.

Thanks very much. I loved the class! 3 of my staff are now planning to work on their CSP's (one already took your class this summer and is testing in late October)...I guess a little example setting encouraged them.

10/3/2011

Just wanted to share the official results that I passed the ASP exam! I will be eligible for the CSP June 2013. Thanks for all the help! I'm sure I'll be taking your course when I'm ready to get my CIH. Have a wonderful week!

I took the CSP exam yesterday afternoon and unofficially PASSED!!!!!!

It was much more difficult than I expected, but your online review course was great and instrumental to my success.

Thanks again and best wishes,

9/1/2011

FYI – I called the Board today and registered to take the CSP exam over the phone. They told me my ASP score was 77% (said that was a very high score...not sure if that was an individual perception or reality).

Your class was obviously very instrumental in my efforts...The Data Chem questions are very close to what you see on the ASP...I just wish I could remember all the stuff I learned!

8/23/2011

Thanks for all your help Russ. When that Pass popped up on the screen my whole life took a breather. I had been working towards this for a year and passed the ASP in January and didn't understand how important it is to immediately sit for the CSP. Please convey that to your students. It is so easy to get back out of the sharp test mode and that is how and why I found your class. Will recommend when I can. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for all your help and the help of your staff.

I passed the CSP exam last week!  What a tough exam that was. I am so glad that is over. Thanks for all the information, the assistance and the moral support.  I will eagerly continue to use the resource center through next March.

Russ and Team,

Just wanted to thank you and let you know that I passed my CSP today. There was a few (5 or so) engineering economy questions and about the same for ventilation. Lots of questions about types of analysis styles and their definitions. Thank you for your class and great prep. Next onto the job search.

Hard work over & finally passed my CSP!!!

It was tougher than I thought.. here are some tips and resource you my consider before taking the CSP exam.

1. Spend more time on safety management systems and how safety is managed in an organization. CSP is more about this vs bio safety or toxicity.

2. Don't lose hope on seeing first 20 questions, last questions might be easier.  If any question you feel is taking more than 1.5 minutes, just skip that.

3. Go through all past questions posted in premium (resource center) section (2007 till 2011) and refer BCSP examination specimen.. that's also a great helping tool. Safety Professionals handbook by Yates was also very helpful especially during revision.

4. I took ASP two weeks earlier then CSP and those two weeks I spent on BCSP examination specimen and Data-Chem. It will be helpful if you keep not much interval (time) between ASP and CSP.

Thanks to Bowen EHS, Inc. It was a great experince attending the ASP/CSP course.

8/5/2011

Hard work over, I just passed my CSP exam. That was tough by the way.

I'd like to thank you for all the efforts and cooperation by Bowen EHS Inc. It was worth attending the course and especially the resources available in the premium (resource center) section was extremely helpful.

7/20/2011

I just passed the ASP exam today.  Most of the questions were actually from the course. It was really helpful taking the class and practice questions. Now I am planning to appear for CSP in next week.

Thanks for all the contribution. It was indeed a great experience.

7/18/2011

I took the ASP today and I unofficially passed the exam.  Boy it was hard.  Thanks for all the good info.  I guess I should I sign up for the CSP right away.

6/30/2011

I took and passed the CSP exam yesterday; first time around-yeah! I did not want to study that hard again...so I made the first time count.

Your review course was pivotal in my success here; many thanks!

In studying, I went back through all of your webinar recordings, 3 or 4 times over. I spent hundreds of hours mastering all of your review course's homework problems. I mastered all the equations/concepts in the BCSP's study guide. Additionally, I read the ASSE CSP study guides (vols. 1 and 2) cover to cover, 4 or 5 times. All told, I spent 650+ hours of my own time preparing...it paid off!

May 4, 2011

Hi Russ,

Thanks for the advice and all the helpful questions. I sat for the test yesterday and...drumroll...I passed!  I used every second on the exam, but did finish in time to review the ones I was unsure of and feel good about the results. I will be interested to see my scores.

The test was WORDY and long! I thought the CIH was harder, but a better test overall and better judge of technical knowledge and not reading comprehension. There were so many questions that seemed to have two right answers! I am relieved it is through
and can now enjoy the summer with my girl, that was the goal!

May 2, 2011

I hope all is well. I am pleased to inform you that on April 27, 2011 I received a passing grade on the comprehensive exam for the CSP. I would like to thank you for the refresher mathematics included in your course and say that passing on the first attempt would not have been possible without the insight provided by Bowen EH&S, Inc.

Thanks again.

April 14, 2011

I really appreciate the ASP/CSP online review. I am not the "traditional" safety guy that has a degree in safety, chemistry, the electrical or mechanical fields like many safety professionals have; my degree is in business. Consequently,  topics like physics, chemistry and math I have touched on during my life but I never took any formal classes in these subjects.

Therefore, the ASP/CSP online review has been a great way for me to learn many new concepts at my own pace. Other certification preparation courses such as the  three-day seminars have good information, but it comes so fast it is what I call "fire hose" instruction, and when it is over, it can leave one's head spinning!

For these reasons, I will pass on the good word about this course and the servant-attitude displayed by you and your staff. In addition, the free exam example questions are a plus to keep one "tuned up" for the exam. Please keep this format!

April 13, 2011

After I took your class I moved to a new state, started a new job as a safety engineer at a mine and did not really have much time to focus on my first shot at the exam (ASP) in Sept of 2007.  I failed by like 1%.

Today was my very last day to take the exam after all of the extensions were granted due to family issues, etc.  I took a week and reviewed your class notes and an old practice exam and unofficially passed this time!!  I am pretty sure if I had taken the test right after your class and I did not have all the distractions, and did not sail through it the first time (done in like less than 2 hours) I would have passied it...this time I was done with only 8 minutes to spare...Anyways thanks for your help and sending me all those study questions...One more exam to go!

February 17, 2011

I took the CSP exam on the 16th of February and passed - just waiting now for the official validation.

The exam was very hard and I used all the time. There were a lot of questions on training and management. Many questions had two final answers that were difficulty to distinguish which made the exam tough.

Thanks for providing the course; it was well worth it again.

Thanks Russ!  I received the rebate check in the mail yesterday.

I would like to thank you for putting on such a no-nonsense study course that was to the point and time efficient.

Your Safety Management EHS Training, System Safety, and Risk Assessment Insurance & Liability review sections were very helpful and should continue to be heavily emphasized.  Students should be aware to not take these sections lightly and to maintain focus given that these sections were towards the end of the review course.

I passed!!!!!  Wow, that was a difficult test.  I really thought I failed. When the results said I passed, I had to read it three times to make sure I was reading it right.  :)  Then I couldn't wipe the grin off my face for about 2 hours.

I really think your class helped.  There were quite a few math problems on the test.  Not sure how many I got correct, but I was at least familiar with the equations and knew how to approach them.

January 31, 2011

Thanks for all of the help.  By the way, I was not allowed to take the 9 page formula hand-out into the testing center.  Instead, the exam questions each listed several formulas along with the question with a statement, "The following formulas may  assist you in answering the following question."  The challenge was deciding which one to use.

January 28, 2011

I have a recommendation to add to your lecture for taking the test - remind people to clear the memory on their calculator.  I did not think to do this.  The testing center was not going to let me take the calculator in unless I could figure out how to clear the memory.  Fortunately, there was a small insert in the calculator's cover that specified which keys to use to clear the memory.  That was not a good way to get my exam started (I could not have passed without my calculator).  They do provide a calculator on the computer, but it would have slowed me down and I don't know if I could have passed by using that one.  There is a reason why you say to practice using the calculator you will use on the exam (there is not enough time to figure out how to use another calculator during the exam). I used the entire time allotted (this included going back to review questions that I wasn't sure if I selected the correct answer).  I would recommend your course to anyone that wants to pursue the CSP that feels they need a review course or guidance to prepare.  Thanks for another great course and all the support that helped guide me to success once again!

January 26, 2011

Thank you Russ!  I did feel that I had a head start during my studies for the CSP exam and on the exam since I had recently passed the CIH exam, after taking the CIH online review course.  You are right - there is material that crosses over between the two.  I'm still glad that I took the ASP/CSP online review course because there were subjects that could be on the CSP exam that I wasn't familiar with or needed a refresher.  Your online review courses were my first experiences with training via the web vs. going to a week-long course somewhere.  I thoroughly enjoyed both courses, and I was never bored during the lectures, due to your jokes, stories, and real life IH/Safety experiences.  Those stories and experiences help you learn and remember the information better, while keeping it interesting.   I'm definitely a fan of online training now and will miss being in class!

I wish you all the best and much success with your growing business!

January 18, 2011

I am finally complete with the lectures, the homework, and the final exam.  Although I don’t think I will be able to take the ASP exam before the end of January, I am studying and will be ready to take the exam in February.  Thanks for all your help and sage guidance.  The course was well structured and very beneficial.  All the best,

Just a quick e-mail, I finally took the Safety Fundamentals exam on Saturday and I passed, albeit unofficially. Thanks for the study questions and the prep course helped me immensely, now onto the next exa.

December 31, 2010

Russ - thanks for a great fall lecture series!

I took the ASP practice test yesterday and got a 66%. I missed a few that I should have got, and guessed correctly at few that I should have missed.  I had to leave 6 or 7 blank, because I simply didn't know how to work the problem.   The test helped  ID my weak areas other than the math.  The test also referenced a lot from Brauer's book, as well as the NSC books (IH and Acc Prev) and the NFPA life code book.

Anyway, I'm going to sit for the ASP the last week of the month - and hopeful  I will pass.  If so, what is your recommendation as to how soon I should go for the CSP?  It seems like the study material is very similar.  One of my study tips has been to record your lectures and my reading of notes into a digital recorder.  I listen to the lectures both  in the gym while on the treadmill, and on a little speaker in my car on my daily commute.  That alone has help me find 1-2 hours per day of review time!

December 29, 2010

I was unsuccessful.  Basically, I did well in the technical portion and poorly elsewhere. I'm glad I took it-2 weeks later I found a lot of the questions/answers in the big white book (never really read before). I think my problems were due to never having too much IH coursework and only dealing with the application side. I have five months to review & memorize, so I should fare well.

December 20, 2010

I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news.  I sat for the safety fundamentals examination is the good news.  The bad news is I failed by 1.1%.................. so close.  The course that you provided is great and I’m determined to dust myself off and take this test again.  I  was traveling a bunch after the course and probably could have spent more time studying. I should have scheduled test right after course.   I got rushed and then the exam date had arrived.   Sometimes work gets in the way.  Excuses right?

September 30, 2010

The CSP has already given me a lot of windows in my workgroup. I am the only person with it. I see it taking me to the next level within the next year.

September 29, 2010

The Orlando course was a critical path item towards passing this test, thanks again for your services. CSP will be next ASAP :-)

September 13, 2010

I need to get this out before I loose it! First of all I passed the exam this morning!! Yay Its finally over! I think the heavy math was my weak area, but I passed! I saved them for last and then did my best. I used my calculations to make an educated guess. I skipped 11 problems, so 11 out of 200 wasn't too bad. To be honest it was not as difficult as I built it up to be.

June 14, 2010
Just Passed the ASP exam. I had very few math questions -- maybe 20 -- and of those, many were engineering economy. A word to all: don't just learn to use the equations -- make sure you are very familiar with all the equation terms. I did notice a number of questions that I had seen before in other study guides. Any guides that have detailed explanations of the answers are well worth the time to review again and again.
-DJ

June 10, 2010
I took the CSP exam on Tuesday….and passed! Thanks for all of your help.
There were a lot of management questions, questions on how to establish a training programs, and what seemed to be way to many systems safety questions. Anyway, I'm glad it's over with and appreciate your curriculum focusing my studying energy.
-MB

May 26, 2010
I also would like to thank you for this online class. In addition to the review of topics I had not seen in many years, I learn a few new topics (e.g., ventilation, noise, etc.) where I had some practical experience but little theoretical knowledge. I believe this course has provided me a good foundation as I continue to prepare for the ASP and CSP exams. In review of the workbook I need clarification on a few sections and have several questions that I will send to you in a separate e-mail within the next week.

Thanks for your consideration to the boatswain question, and for the ASP/CSP course.

April 13, 2010
I will appreciate the algebra and calculator review class. I haven’t used algebra or touched a calculator in 25 years. This is a bit overwhelming to me. You do a great job and I understand the concepts. However, I struggle sometimes with how to use the calculator to set the problems up due to never applying it. I watch each session at least twice and pick up things that I missed the previous time. The best thing that seems to help me is to look at what looking in for in each problem , making your conversions, and when you set up the equation the calculator does all the work. I’ve memorized some equations and will not give up. I enjoy when I figure it out and it seems so simple and I’m like “that’s it.” I’m making my own flash cards and studying the formulas to understand which ones to use in each word problem. We went from turning the calculator on to where we are now pretty quick.

April 7, 2010
To let you know I took the ASP in December and passed as mentioned earlier and April first took the CSP and passed. Both tests first time, thank you so much for the class. I will recommend it and Datachem to everyone.

April 7, 2010
The classes are great by the way. You present the information very clearly and have a very relaxed and humorous approach. I am really enjoying it thus far.

March 28, 2010
I took the CSP exam on friday and passed. The test was made u of about 25% equations, 50% safety management type questions, and 25% engineering economy. I am actually quite surprised that I passed. I did well above average on the ASP exam a couple weeks ago, but I barley finished this test. It was much harder than the ASP. I started by going through all 200 questions and answering the quick ones first. Then I went back to take care of the 50 or so flagged items that took much longer. In the last 5 minutes I made sure that I answered all of questions. I made and educated guess on about 25% of the flagged questions because I didn't have time do the calculations.

Thanks for all of your help. I plan on taking your CIH prep this fall.
-MM

March 26, 2010
I wanted to let you know I just passed my CSP yesterday. Much more difficult as far as the questions in terms of having to reason things out from the information given. A lot of questions on PSM, management styles and how you as a safety manager would organize and prioritize a program. Also different systems analysis.

Again, I can’t thank you enough for providing such a course and teaching it. I think it made the difference and helped me to pass both exams the first time.
-MC

March 16, 2010
Today I sat for and unofficially passed the ASP test. Engineering economy and electrical power shared the top math question honors. No IH related calculations. I bought a second calculator for back-up but it wasn't needed as the test computer had a calculator app on the screen. Hopefully I will be able to take the CSP in another 4-6 weeks.
-JS

March 12, 2010
I took you CSP class last year. I just sat for the ASP exam and passed. Your class was very helpful, thanks! One question that I have is if you can recommend a good reference for engineering economy. This subject made up a large portion of the quantitative questions. Also, can you enlighten me as to how much more difficult the CSP exam is. I was planning on taking it in a couple weeks but I am not sure if I am ready. I would appreciate any knowledge that you may have.
-MM

March 3, 2010
I took the ASP/CSP prep class and completed in Dec 09. I just wanted to say that I passed the ASP exams and have received formal acknowledgement form the Board.

Your class was a big part of the confidence builder to take the test and to pass it.

January 22, 2010
I took my CSP exam yesterday and unofficially “passed”.
I studied for probably about 100 hours with varying levels of intensity beginning the 2nd week in November. I used your course primarily to organize my study material into topics as well as some of the course content.
My bases for testing my knowledge was the CSP Datachem Software.
I went through each test question twice. Initially to identify my weak areas and then to test my comprehension at the end. This was the same approach I used for the CIH and it worked, so why not use it again. I also had one of your 50 question study guides. Actually the questions in your study guide were more representative of the type of math questions, I saw on the exam than the ones in the CSP datachem software.

The test took me 5.5 hours to complete. I am normally a fast test taker but the questions were more like scenarios then quick responses. I read the majority of the questions twice. There were only a handful of questions that required a quick response. Most of the answers to the questions were a full sentence long. There were limited math problems…... Several on engineering economy (detailed questions).……. Several math problems dealing with statistics….. In fact unit conversion was basically a problem of every math problem. It was important to read each problem to determine what they wanted in the final answer. You could properly solve the problems and then forget the little final step, what they really wanted.
There were multiple questions dealing with statistics, probability vs reliability, product safety, system safety, safety management, risk assessment.
Personally, I believe as a CIH I was well ahead of most of the students to take the CSP.

January 15, 2010
YES, I PASSED my ASP Exam!
I took it on December 14th. Hoping to take the next exam very soon!
Thank you so much!
-MG

January 15, 2010
I took the ASP and CSP exams 30 days apart and passed both the first time around. I found the extra study materials offered by you to be a great refresher for the exam. It should be noted that there were several enviornmental and management related questions on the exam as well.
-AR

January 15, 2010
I wanted to inform you that I recently took the CSP exam and did not pass (bummer). I have not received my official score but the test was more difficult than I expected. The test focused mainly on different safety management styles, cost relationship factors, gas pressure, distance/time of toxic gas traveling down wind, best case scenarios, and a lot more math questions than what other people have told you. I counted a least 42 math questions, some easy some very difficult. There really wasn’t that many technical questions from what I can remember. I know that I purchased the data chem disc and expected some of the same questions on the exam but there were none on the exam. I know my nerves got the best of me and the crazy white board that they provided. The biggest thing was the equations they provided on the test. Besides the handout sheet there were also equations for certain problems which I’ve never seen before. It really through me off of my game plan. The best thing about taking the test was the fact that I know where I need to focus my attention on and what to expect next time.
-KP

January 9, 2010
Russ, I got my ### kicked. The majority of this exam questions focused on subject matter that I was not prepared for. I am discouraged, I spent well over 200 hours preparing for this exam.
-DV

January 4, 2010
I passed the Comprehensive Exam on 12-29-09 (just 22 days after passing the fundamentals). Thanks for all the help and encouragement. Your course confirmed my readiness and filled in some of the gaps to help me prep.
-DH

December 30, 2009
I took the ASP today and my unofficial results are that I passed. I can't believe it, I felt like I should have studied more while taking it. Credit goes to your class!

My suggestions when asked are: your class, Datachem and read the Brauer book. What do I need to do in prep for the CSP Exam?
-KK

December 21, 2009
I took the Comprehensive Practice Exam today and passed! My test was full of calculations. So many that I actually did not complete the exam. I was just filling in answers at the end just to have an answer picked before time ran out. I guess I must have done well on the ones that I did have time to think through and answer. Thank you for your help.
-WS

December 18, 2009
I wanted to let you know I took and passed the ASP Exam yesterday. There were about three questions I had no idea what they were talking about but the rest of the material was covered in you class.

I had a lot of questions centered on the financial aspect of safety and electricity.

I do not think I would have passed the exam without taking your class because I would have been at a loss as to what I should study and how to go about it. It was invaluable to be able to ask someone questions instead of trying to figure it out on your own so “thank you again”.

Passed the CSP today, was more difficult than I was expecting. I studied extensively, have taken the ASP and CSP 6 months apart, attended your class and studied both cd preps from ASSE. Needed more prep on general management philosophy.

Roughly 10% math oriented compared to 20% on ASP
General questions were tougher than ASP, could narrow done to 2 choices then went with my gut.

Thanks for your help. Your online course did the trick for me. The CSP Exam was much harder and I was not sure after it was all over. I had very few math problems, it focused on Training and Management Questions. The Brauer Book really helped. Thanks again, I hope to take your CIH class one day also.

Russ, I did it. Thanks to you!
This time, there were a few ventilation questions.... a few radiation-math questions..... Overall, I found it very similar to the ASP exam.

Finally took my exam today for CSP and passed. I was really sweating it, I guessed at a lot questions. The rumor that the math portion is being reduced is baloney. A lot of problems on hydraulics, vapor concentrations, engineering economy, statistics. Many, many questions on management techniques, many of them having nothing to do with safety, not sure what the sources were but I sure never read them. Quite a bit of ISO, almost nothing on rules and regulations.

Here is a copy of the results of my CSP test. This is the worst score I have received sense I have been taking the test. When I finished the test I really thought my score would be around 50 to 52%. I was shocked when I seen 42.9%.This is the 5th or 6th time I have taken the test. I do not believe it is your study course. Your course was one of my better workshops I have taken. I am not sure what to do. I am open for suggestions. I know that BCSP wants anyone who fails to refer to the examination blueprint in the Comprehensive Practice Guide but that is a broad range of information to study.

I just finished lecture 09 last night. I'm actually beginning to understand the lectures again. I'll be honest.....the math kicked my butt the first couple of lectures. Made me feel pretty clueless. I'm planning on getting through lecture 12 this week.

I passed the ASP exam today! Yippee! I've attached the unofficial result. I was stumped by these topics: ...... I'm going to take the CSP soon - hopefully 2-3 months due to the sign up period. I feel like I'm on a roll and don't want to lose momentum. Thanks for all your help!
