SELECTED PROJECTS AND EXPERIENCE

CIH and CSP online review courses. Created and taught lectures presented over the internet using PowerPoint slides with homework problems emailed after each lecture. Passing rate of CIH students taking the exam is at least 50% higher than the rate for the entire testing population.

Health and Safety Support: Large Federal Research Facility. Conducted annual inspections of facility. Evaluated ergonomic and indoor air quality issues. Responded to emergency maintenance issues.

HAZWOPER Training for Federal Agency. Taught 24-hour hazardous waste operations and emergency response training and 8-hour refresher courses for federal employees in Atlanta, Georgia. Covered incident command systems, personal protective equipment, decontamination, respiratory protection, toxicology, safety procedures, air sampling, exposure monitoring and medical surveillance.

Indoor Air Quality Investigation at a Poultry Facility. Employee complaints of sporadic episodes of upper respiratory irritation were investigated. Suspected cause was the generation of chloramines from highly chlorinated water reacting with ammonia.

Wood Dust Exposure Assessment at Lumber Yard. Workers compensation claim against a lumber yard regarding an employee diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Evaluated air concentration of wood dust from operations.

Indoor Air Quality Course. Teach 2.5 day indoor air quality course through the UNC Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research Center (OSHERC).

Introduction to Risk Assessment. Designed and taught a 2.5 day course on risk assessment for health and safety professionals through the UNC OSHERC.

Environmental, Health and Safety Manager: Chemical Plant. Served as the environmental health and safety manager at a chemical plant in Savannah, GA. Responsible for all environmental reporting and safety processes. Facilitated the implementation of a behavior-based safety process. Responsible for hearing conservation program, personal protective equipment, lockout tagout, confined space entry and all safety processes.

Noise Assessment at Animal Research Facility. Measured noise levels in canine and swine kennel. Client was interested in effect of noise levels from barking dogs on the pigs kept in the same room.

Health and Safety Manager: Lead Superfund Project. Managed 8 safety technicians and health and safety program for large lead remediation project in central Illinois. Approximately 60 active employees working on the project. Daily exposure monitoring and construction activities were completed.

Integrated Pest Management Plan: Federal Facility. Developed draft integrated pest management plan for US Governmental Agency at a large research facility.

Regional Health and Safety Manager: Industrial Maintenance. Managed health and safety process for 3 operating facilities in Missouri and Illinois. Major activities included high pressure (20,000 psi) water blasting, vacuum truck work and chemical cleaning at large chemical plants and oil refineries.

HAZMAT Emergency Response Technician. Started career at a small environmental remediation company in St. Louis, MO. Worked on a variety of environmental projects including pesticide facility remediation, asbestos remediation of a high-rise office building, contaminated drum remediation and numerous emergency response projects.
