We use eLecta for our live online classroom. To access the classroom, you'll need to install a small plugin onto any computer you use. Just follow the instructions below.

Installing eLecta

  1. Check which version of Java your computer is running. If you need an update, the system will provide you with an update.
Verify Java version  - follow the onscreen instructions
  2. Download the eLecta plugin.  Choose Run if possible.  Otherwise, open or find your Downloads window and doubleclick the eLecta download to install it.
    Download eLecta
  3. Try it out. Enter a test classroom and see if it works.
Try the Test Room - click the Enter the Test Room button when it appears.

Upgrading eLecta

Keep all existing installations (you need them for older recordings)  and simply use the Test Room to trigger the updates needed.

Try the Test Room - click the Enter the Test Room button when it appears.

Can you send the information my IT guys will need for the update to Electa 8.0. Russ mentioned if we are taking the class at work they may need to update something. We had quiet a bit of trouble with the set up at the beginning of this class, so I'm sure we'll fall into this category. :).

@Pam - I've updated the instructions and links above for e-Lecta v.8.x. If your IT guys follow them, they should be able to install and test everything needed in about 15 minutes. There are no firewall changes that are needed with this update.

    Chris,

I am having issues with viewing the older recorded sessions. I cannot find a program to open and view them with. Can you help me find a program to view these recorded sessions or give me the guided instructions to open them please.

@Donnie - Sure. You'll need eLecta v.7.x. Please go to http://www.bowenehs.com/support/previous-electa-virtual-classroom-versions.html and click the appropriate download button.

Can I view live classes and recordings on my ipad? I haven't been able to get it to work as of yet.

@alexis: That's a nice idea; however, our virtual classroom does not work on iPads or iPhones at this time. It also does not work on Android or BlackBerry devices. This is due to two issues:

    1) Java is required. Apple does not like Java for iOS.
    2) Our interactive classroom requires a more heavyweight operating system such as Windows or Mac OS X to provide the decompression of the data.

This compression allows us to store 2 hours of video in 30 Megabytes. A standard video file of this would be at least 10 Gigabytes - over 330 times larger than our current system. We want you to be able to store these files for your review.

Perhaps the developers might find a way to make this all work on mobile devices in the future.
