If you have a Windows machine or a Mac1 that can run Windows programs, you'll need to have the virtual classroom plugin installed. If you have attended class already, you have this installed on your machine.

Install/test your system

You can check your system or install the plugin by clicking the following the instructions in the Connecting to the Virtual Classroom article. Check Your System

Viewing recordings

The best way to do this is to save it on your hard drive or in your documents and then view it. You will be able to go back and review this without internet access. Please see the note about Macs.

When you click on a link for a recording,

  1. Choose Save or Save as when given the options of Open, Run, or Save
    open-save-dialog
  2. If given a choice, save the file in a folder where you can easily find it.
  3. After the file has finished downloading, go to the folder you stored the recording and open it. If you didn't choose where you saved it, try My Documents/Downloads or Downloads.
1A note about Macs

At this time, Macs can only view live lectures and playable links found in our courses. They can not run downloaded copies of the lectures.

Chis, can you tell me if there is a way to back up a lecture just a small amount without it having to start over each time you want to re-listen to a minute before? Also, I know I can download the lectures but can I download and save them to my hard drive?

Thank you for your questions, Sandra. Sorry, e-Lecta v. 7.3 (current as of Nov 2011) does not have an easy, quick way to back up a recording just a little bit.

I've updated the article to include some instructions how to save recordings to your machine.

Chris, I continue to have problems watching the lectures after I download and save them. They continually stop and I have to reopen them. I try to fast fwd and get back to the point where I was but that usually causes it to crash. A two hour lecture can take me six hours to review. Any help?

@Margaret: It sounds like your machine is not actually downloading the complete file. Which browser are you using to download the lectures? If you are using Internet Explorer, please try Firefox. It does a better job of downloading large files.
