Do I need access to a telephone and the internet to participate in the review course?

No. All communication will take place through your computer. Your computer will need to have a sound card in order for you to hear the lectures. A headset with an attached microphone provides the optimum communication experience, but this is not required.

I haven't had a math class since Jimmy Carter was president. Do I need to take a math class?

Maybe. You need to be comfortable with algebra. The CSP exam may require some trigonometry. Statistical questions may also be asked on either exam. We will spend several lectures going over math problems. We will help you as needed. However, you may find an algebra or trigonometry class at a local community college helpful.

Do I need to buy a text to take the course?

No. We provide a manual with Powerpoint slide handouts and study questions will be mailed to you prior to the beginning of the course. You may want to purchase a few additional reference materials.

What reference materials should I buy to prepare for the exam?

The Study Materials page lists several resources for each exam. We offer comments on the materials with which we are familiar.

Do you have a course for the ASP exam?

Yes. The ASP/CSP course is an excellent preparation for the ASP exam. The exams are similar, but the CSP tends to cover more management topics and the ASP is more focused on science and engineering fundamentals.

Can I pay for the review course by installments?

Yes. You must have a valid credit card. The registration fee will be charged to your credit card in 4 monthly installments. The first installment must be paid prior to the start of the class. Please email for details.

Can I get copies of your previous free questions?

Yes. Workbooks of previous questions are available for purchase in our bookstore.

Do you have information on how to get certified as a CIH or CSP?

Information regarding the CIH exam is available from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (www.abih.org). Information regarding the CSP exam is available from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (www.bcsp.org).

How helpful is the CIH designation?

It is a recognized level of professional accomplishment in the field of occupational health. People holding the CIH tend to have higher salaries than people in similar professions without the CIH. A good check on the importance is to check the number of employment listings requiring the CIH designation.

It is a recognized level of professional accomplishment in the field of safety. People holding the CSP tend to have higher salaries than people in similar professions without the CSP. A good check on the importance is to check the number of employment listings requiring the CSP designation.

What is the success rate of people passing the exam after taking your course?

We don't know for sure. We try to contact people after the exam window has closed, but unfortunately not everyone responds to the questions on whether they took the exam and whether they passed.

What calculator do you recommend using for the exam?

The best calculator is the one with which you are most familiar. Be sure it is approved for use in the exam. Here are a few additional tips on calculator selection. Some calculators (Casio models, and I think some Texas Instrument models) have 2 line displays. This allows you to see the equation you've entered allowing you to check your work. Do not buy a calculator powered only by solar cells. The lighting in the testing center may not be adequate. You may want to bring a back-up calculator or at least backup batteries in case you have problems.

If I pass the CIH exam, will I be able to use the CM points from your class towards my first CM renewal?

No. Your first CM cycle will start in the first January following your exam. Only CM points earned starting in that January will count towards your required CM points.

Yes. There are a limited number of seats available in each class, but we will keep a few open for the occasional cross-over.

Yes. Lectures will be available online for the duration of the course. In addition, CDs with the recorded lectures will be made available at the end of each course.

Will I be able to participate with a Mac computer?

The web conferencing service does not support the Mac OS. However, we have loaner laptops for you to use during the course. Send us an email, and we will ship the laptop to you. Just return it after the class.
