CIH and CSP Exam Strategies

Written by

It is the time of year when many folks are preparing to take their certification exam.  Here are a few tips to consider as you prepare to the Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) exam or the Associates Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) exam.

  1. Be sure to get a good night's rest before the exam.  Do not stay up late trying to cram a few more facts into your brain.  These are comprehensive exams, and you will perform much better if you are well rested.

  2. Plan to go through the exam twice.  Skip all problems that take more than 45 seconds to solve on your first time through the exam.  When you go back through your exam, work the easier problems first and save the hardest problems for last.  You don't want to spend a lot of time on a hard problem and not have enough time to work easier problems.

  3. Be sure to answer each question.  Guess if you don't know, but guess wisely.  You may not know the right answer, but you can often eliminate bad choices.

One last thought:  You might be an industrial hygienist if you bring out your PID when eating beans for lunch with your friends.
