Exam Strategy Reminders

Written by

Many folks are getting ready to take the comprehensive exam for the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) exams.  Time management is critical for passing any of these exams. Here are a few tips to help you through the exam.

  1. Plan on going through the exam twice.
  2. Skip all the difficult questions using math or complex language the first time through the exam.
  3. When you go through the exam the second time, do the easiest problems first, and save the hardest problems for last.
  4. Try not to get bogged down on any one question on your second time through.  If you can't figure it out within a couple minutes, then just make a guess, and move on.  This will help manage anxiety and stress during the exam helping you to improve your score.

Remember that the goal is to pass the exam. No one is expected to have a perfect score. The passing score for the CIH exam this fall is now 68.6%.  The passing score for the ASP exam is 59.4%, and the CSP exam passing score is 54.9%.

Good luck for all of you sitting for one of these exams in the remainder of 2011!
