Link Shumaker earned a BS degree in Chemical Engineering in 2002 and an MS in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering in 2007 both from the University of Kentucky. In 2007 he moved to Moncure, NC to begin his work in the biodiesel industry with Piedmont Biofuels. After five years with Piedmont biofuels, Link continued working in community scale biodiesel production using restaurant grease as a feedstock through his sole proprietorship, JL Shumaker Consultancy. Between 2007 and 2014, Link worked with eight companies designing, building, permitting, plumbing, operating, optimizing and maintaining biodiesel plants and biodiesel business models. In 2015, after a short stint in the biomass pelletization industry, Link joined RTI International’s Energy Technology Department where he works as Research Chemical Engineer designing, building, plumbing, operating and maintaining next generation energy technologies. Link is licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) certified as a Manager of Environmental Safety and Health (MESH) in the State of NC and a senior member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
