In 2021, and for the previous 11 years, Fall Protection, Construction (29 CFR 1926.501) was the #1 most frequently cited standard by OSHA; with more than double the number of violations of the #2 most cited standard (respiratory protection). The dangers of working at height cannot be underestimated. The fall protection standard was also the #1 “serious” violation cited.
Fall hazard violations continue to top the list of violations and severe injuries because they are present in so many workplaces. Stairways, ladders, scaffolding, unprotected edges and holes, balconies and wall openings, or work on elevated work surfaces all present conditions that are ready for a fall if proper hazard assessment and abatement are not put into practice. Employers need to continually evaluate workplaces and the scope of work to identify and abate fall hazards.
Pursuant to the abovementioned rules, safety professionals should be prepared to assess fall hazards and develop a plan to address and mitigate these hazards. Standards discussing fall protection include:
- 29 CFR 1926.501 Duty to have fall protection
- 29 CFR 1926.502 Fall protection systems criteria and practice
- 29 CFR 1926.503 Training requirements (Fall Protection)
Although this is not an all-inclusive list, the above regulations outline where fall protection is required, which systems are appropriate for a certain situation, proper construction, installation of fall protection, supervision requirements, and training. During this webinar, we will review the requirements of these regulations and provide a general overview in order to assess and address fall protection issues.

- Review why knowing fall distance matters when choosing equipment
- Discuss hazards of falls and the importance of having a rescue plan

She is currently the Regional Safety Manager in Texas and Florida for the largest US insulation contractor.
