Smooth Sailing: Navigating Health and Safety Hazards on Vacation Cruises

Presented: May 15, 2024  Available until: Jun 1, 2025

As an OEHS professional, you are most likely familiar with safety and health protocols on land. But, are you familiar with the health and safety challenges and complexities associated with incidents at sea or in a maritime environment? During this webinar, we will walk you through common risks on cruise ships, including slip-and-fall risks, air quality issues, foodborne illness, exposure to dangerous substances, the impacts of noise and vibrations, and drowning. Then, we will discuss how these risks are managed through regulation, operations, and training.

Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  1.  Investigate and mitigate potential hazards from slip-and-fall risks on wet decks.
  2.  Ensure top-notch air quality throughout the ship.
  3.  Fight foodborne illnesses with rigorous food safety protocols.
  4.  Minimize noise levels, vibrations, and motion sickness for passengers.
  5.  Train crew about chemical exposure to cleaning agents, pesticides, and other chemicals used onboard.
  6. Protect passengers and crew from drowning, infectious disease, and psychological stress.
